CUARTETO IMAGINARIO

Duncan Haynes' Cuarteto Imaginario project synthesises jazz, chamber music, folkloric musics of South America, and poetry. The name is inspired by El Hombre Imaginario written by the great Chilean poet Nicanor Parra.

The music of Cuarteto Imaginario draws inspiration from Argentina, Brasil, Uruguay, Perú and Colombia as well as art song and jazz improvisation. These rhythms and textures are explored through an exciting and moving repertoire of original compositions and inventive arrangements, and a group aesthetic charged with individual musical firepower. Our keywords are tradición, creatividad y sabor!

Cuarteto Imaginario is comprised of Duncan Haynes (piano, composer, arranger), Mark Bobb (voice), Christopher Hill (guitar) and Lance Philip (percussion).

Next performance: 05/09/24 for Wellington Jazz Cooperative at Cavern Club, Wellington. Buy tickets at Eventfinda and share the event on Facebook.

El Hombre Imaginario - Nicanor Parra

El hombre imaginario
vive en una mansión imaginaria
rodeada de árboles imaginarios
a la orilla de un río imaginario

De los muros que son imaginarios
penden antiguos cuadros imaginarios
irreparables grietas imaginarias
que representan hechos imaginarios
ocurridos en mundos imaginarios
en lugares y tiempos imaginarios

Todas las tardes tardes imaginarias
sube las escaleras imaginarias
y se asoma al balcón imaginario
a mirar el paisaje imaginario
que consiste en un valle imaginario
circundado de cerros imaginarios

Sombras imaginarias
vienen por el camino imaginario
entonando canciones imaginarias
a la muerte del sol imaginario

Y en las noches de luna imaginaria
sueña con la mujer imaginaria
que le brindó su amor imaginario
vuelve a sentir ese mismo dolor
ese mismo placer imaginario
y vuelve a palpitar
el corazón del hombre imaginario
